Dr. Barry Rittberg brings over four decades of esteemed experience as a psychiatrist in both inpatient and outpatient settings. He pioneered one of the first mood disorders clinics in the Twin Cities in 1985, contributing significantly to the University of Minnesota's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science.
An influential teacher and mentor, Dr. Rittberg's research has notably advanced treatments in depression, including early use of ketamine and innovations in neuromodulation like vagus nerve and deep brain stimulation. He specializes in treatment-resistant depression, combining neuromodulation, psychopharmacology, and collaborative psychotherapy.
Dr. Rittberg earned his undergraduate degree in Chemistry with distinction from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin, completing his psychiatry residency at the University of Minnesota. He is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha honor societies and a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
In his free time, Dr. Rittberg enjoys spending quality time with family and friends, fishing, tinkering with electronics, and exploring the natural beauty of Minnesota’s Voyageur’s National Park.
